Wherefore art thou, Leo?
![]()
Leo at 2am PST, Sunday Nov 18 on a computer screen in Tokyo simulating the view due east from Tokyo. This is the sky on which should be projected a very nice show. Leo turns out to be quite the timely reminder of the Arabic influence in astronomy.
Regulus (P7 above) sits right on the ecliptic, with Denebola (I15) the bright star near the horizon (doubt we’ll be seeing that without some altitude). Moving up from Denebola we have:
- Chertan, Chort (K12)
- Zosma (I11)
- Eta Leonis (N6)
- Algieba (L6)
- Aldhafera (K5)
- Rasalas (K3)
- Ras Elased Australis (M3)
Looking for a good easterly prospect sheltered halfway up a small mountain somewhere not too far from Tokyo. (You can turn the trees off in Starry Night but, let’s face it, there are going to be trees.)
