Masako’s Baby
A new princess for Japan’s royals
cnn.com
Congratulations — it’s a constitutional crisis!
Happened to turn on the TV tonight and almost every channel is covering the birth of the new princess. The only holdouts are showing cooking shows (there’s always a cooking show on at all times; it must be a rule).
Things could get interesting as debate heats up whether to amend the constitution to allow the ascension of women to the throne. I’d rather see it overthrown than ascended to, but given that that’s not likely to happen, by all means, let the girls have a turn. Had to laugh at this line from the cnn story:
Some Japanese analysts have said the news could help will lift the country’s economic gloom, at least temporarily, encouraging consumers to get out and spend.
Yep, baby’s here. Think it’s about time I bought that house.
