Humming Across the Ages
I had an extremely stressful day yesterday. Lots of work, a dead computer to be resurrected, inadequate tools at hand to do just about anything I needed to do. By the end of the day I was in a foul mood, so as I left the office at close to midnight I fired up the iPod and started listening to Glenn Gould play Bach.
Instantly I started feeling better.
I listened to Gould all the way home, even after I got off the train and was walking back to my house. As I approached my neighbourhood - a blissfully quiet area - I became aware of someone walking close behind me, saying something which I couldn’t make out. Eventually I turned around but of course there was no one there.
It was Glenn, mumbling to himself and humming along to Bach as he played.
