Some pieces of information just bring my mind to a complete halt. This is from a recent Thomas Friedman column (called “The End of NATO?”) in The New York Times:
If President Bush gets the defense budget increase he asked for in his State of the Union address, U.S. defense spending will equal the defense budgets of the next 15 highest countries - combined.

Typically, spending on education is about 10% of defense spending, and edu is the second highest category!
