Auto-escalators

I’ve recently noticed a new development in escalator technology which I just love: escalators that only move when someone’s on them.
These new models have a pair of photo-electric sensors positioned so that as you approach the escalator, the switch is tripped and the stairs start moving. Brilliant. Why did it take so long to think of this?
The first time I saw one of these new ones it was stationary. I thought it was broken. But no! Turns out all the older escalators are ‘broken.’

Now I know where iMacs go on vacation! They look so tidy and organized. I imagined “iMacs on parade!”
And I was SO proud last night when the new iMac ad came on during the Oscars!

There were what seemed like hundreds of new iMacs. Everywhere you looked, new iMac. No wonder there’s a shortage; they were all at MWT.
Between the new iMac and the iPod, I’d say Apple can expect a reasonable rate of conversion of Windows users. I’ve never had so many PC-using friends quizzing me about Apple hardware and seriously contemplating the move. Time will tell how many of the actually do it, but the level of interest is quite something.
