Sometimes It’s the Jerks I Feel Sorry For
Comments: 2
I seemed to be getting bombed by the Klez worm recently. Then again, who isn’t, so not much to add here. But sometimes I get mail that’s just so pathetic, well, I just have to share it with you.
“Yukky-panda” sends me an .exe file called “setup.exe” (geez, at least try to camouflage it for god’s sake) and writes:
Hello,This is a funny game
This game is my first work.
You’re the first player.
I wish you would enjoy it.
Well, Yukky, I’m honoured. But unfortunately any message I receive with an attached .exe gets immediately routed to the trash, site unseen. I’m sure it’s a wonderful game and all, but thanks anyway. Maybe next time, loser.

I share your pain about these annoying virii — Twice this week I’ve gotten so many of them sent my way that I’ve had to have my ISP go in and delete anything with an attachment over 120K. Now, I ask - why isn’t the ISP filtering this stuff? geesh. So annoying when you have a mac and purely a bandwidth issue. If it’s not the virus-laden messages themselves clogging things up, it’s the foolish windows users clogging up the email lists asking if anyone else got it, what IS it?, what they had to do to fix it blah blah yadda yadda.

The hammering from the Klez is only getting worse. There’s a special place in hell waiting for the person who unleashed this!
The other thing that really gets my goat is well-intentioned virus warnings from neophyte friends (generally regarding hoaxes, of course). I make a point these days when helping friends set up systems of telling them two things: never respond to spam and never send or forward virus warnings.
But this is a minor irritation compared with what we’re all going through at the moment.
