New EU Flag Design

Rem Koolhaas has been commissioned to design a new flag for the EU. The result is something between a barcode and a Paul Smith shopping bag. This is one of those pieces of work where I admire the thinking behind the result more than the result itself.

The proposed Bar- Code Flag is disgusting!! Why not putting the Gay Pride Flag up the pole instead?? How can an artist seriously propose a Flag (that will be used for offical purposes and with people and soldiers supposed to salute it) whit colours stright out the worst of the Gay bars? We Europeans need a Falg that people can be proud of, that they want to salut and that the love. So what is wrong with the actual one! what we just need is a cout of arms that could add a little mor sovreignty to speaches of a EU representant. Thank You!

Relax. It’s much better than his first design which was a hot pink colour with an erect penis on it.

Come on people do not be mad, let’s just hope something better comes aroud, oh and about those morrons mAX bLANCK and jh on let’s just ignore them t’is because of such beings that the EU does not prosper.
We should rather consider it, yes the flag does have the colors of all the others but I must admit it does have a bad design, why not add more golden stars to the already existing one? or rahter add the stars with the colours of each flag.

The flag is horrid, just horrid, I mean can you imagine running into battle and creaming “for the green white orange blue white red white blue green red yellow…. etc…” um anyhooo… I swear to god, if this thig gets accepted I am going to renounce my citizenshiop, and move to the U.S.
Presonally wouldn’t it just be easier to add 10 new stars?

isn’t it just great to eventually move away from military designs, constupated emblems, boring religious symbols and celestial bliss? could we please add more color and happiness to the rest of world matters?

What about a sort of transparent map of The EU with Stars shining from all the capital cities of the states nations. although i suppose in the lowlands of belgium etc it would get complicated

Just got back from a trip to Prague, where I found the old EU flag to be flying everywhere. People seemed proud of it even though they didn’t yet have their ‘star’ on it.
I think the problem with the Koolhaas design is bigger than its mere garishness. It it emphasizes the apart-ness of all member countries rather than their unity. Last time I checked, it was the European Union, not the European We-Just-Can’t-Live-Without-Our-Own-Country’s-Colors.
The above posts speak to this. People want a “coat of arms” and something they can salute to. They want something with the gravitas of tradition. The proposed design lacks both the spirit and the specifics.
Sorry, Rem. Back to the drawing board. Where’s Betsy Ross when you need her?

This flag is total nonsence. First of all I don’t find Lithuanian “yellow-green-red” flag in it and this dissapoints me.
