Suicide Bomber in Perth?
Australians generally lack the committment and self-denial necessary to be good suicide bombers, yet one man may have nudged (or blown) the national character in a decidedly more contemporary direction yesterday, right in my little state capital of Perth, WA. From The Sydney Morning Herald (breathless paragraphing intact):
‘Suicide bomber’ in suburban Perth
A man died overnight in an apparent suicide bombing in a northern Perth suburb.
WA police said the man is believed to have strapped explosives to his body before walking outside his home and detonating them late last night.
Inspector Cath Bullen said one person was killed in the blast but it was not clear if others were injured.
She could not confirm reports the incident was a suicide bombing.
“At this point in time all we can confirm is there was an explosion,” Inspector Bullen said.
The web site of the state’s daily newspaper has no mention of the story.
