May the Gods Bless Honeybees
For some reason I’ve always loved bees (at a distance). I’m a honey junkie as well as a hardcore caffeine addict, and it turns out that bees may be helpful little enablers for both vices:
Honeybees double coffee yields
Honeybee pollination can double a coffee crop’s yield, new research shows.
The plants are primarily self-pollinating. But research by David Roubik at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama shows bee pollination is much more important than farmers thought.
[…]
He believes bees improve coffee yield by increasing the amount of pollen placed on the stigma of each plant and increasing the genetic diversity of coffee crops.
Increased pollen on the stigma and greater genetic diversity are my ideas of a good time.
