I have no idea where my wife finds these things (I never seem to have such luck), but today she bought some Cow Beauty Soap. It’s a whole udder kind of soap… leathers up real well. (Sorry, but I’m milking this one for all it’s worth. ;-)
In Japanese, “kao” (pronounced just like the animal) means face, but that’s not why they called it Cow. They called it Cow because it’s made with milk. Tell it like it is.

The last time I was in Nihon, my favorite product was a soft drink called “Sweat.”

Guys, guys. (sigh).
Women have been bathing in milk for millenia all over the globe. Cleopatra was a famous early adopter.

Just search “milk bath” and Google will show you that milk beauty treatments not an Japanese oddity. (Although I think there is a kao-cow connection, else why not call it milk soap.) Apparently the lactic acid in milk acts contains alpha hydroxy acid.
I think the most famous Japanese “natural” beauty treatment is uguisu no fun (bush warbler/nightingale droppings). It’s a dry powder that you make into a paste for a facial. Of course, I tried it.
