Pismo Out in the Cold?
MacFixIt ran mail from someone trying to install Jaguar on their Pismo which they’d bumped up to 768 MB of RAM – like mine. The OS update wouldn’t work because the Pismo supposedly supports a maximum of 256 MB in each slot. Although Apple’s official Pismo specs seem to bear this out, several RAM vendors have replied to MacFixIt saying 512 MB boards in the Pismo should pose no problem.
On Saturday there’s a good chance I’ll find out. I am going to be so pissed off if 10.2 doesn’t want to install on my Pismo (10.1.x has been running just fine).

I’ve been running an interim build of 10.2 on my Pismo for a few weeks now and it’s great. I have 640 of RAM on my machine.
Pismos rule!

Good to hear - thanks for letting me know. This relaxes me a bit.
And yes - Pismos rule… once you replace the screen on them ;-) A friend bought one when they first came and had to have the screen replaced within a week (they just gave him a new machine). Mine went about 6 months into the warranty and they put a whole new LCD in. Zero problems since then.
The Pismo seems to be one of those real workhorse machines Apple comes up with every once in a while. I bought a CD burner for the expansion bay, hung a bunch of Firewire drives off it and have been in Mac heaven ever since.
I know its graphics card won’t support Quartz Extreme, but how have you been finding the speed improvements since moving to 10.2? Anything noticeable?

Yes I do think it’s peppier, as did one of the more qualified-to-judge of my co-workers. I think things open and load faster, and I’ve really had no problems. I should have my very own copy on Thursday and I’m looking forward to it!

Coming to you live from 10.2 Did a clean install with no problems, although I’m still moving things from back up to the pismo. Hopefully by living in a more “OS X” fashion in terms of User, application and document folders etc future moves will be easier.
biggest problem so far - tried and tried and tried to get back on the net and couldn’t. Kept checking network settings blah blah blah. Duh - our DSL modem had gone kaflooey. Turned it off and back on - back in business. Now, where are my bookmark/favorites???? LOL
I did check my system profile and all is well in terms of recognized ram etc.
Cheers!

Just wanted to let you know that I had a blast attending the pre-launch party for 10.2 at the apple store where I work. I went back after a late dinner and stood in LINE!!! before getting in. And the store was shoulder to shoulder people, with as many or more than we had on opening day. What a fun time.
