TrackBack and Validation: Getting It Straight
Comments: 2
Tomas made a good comment in response to my last post. I said TrackBack “seems to break XHTML validation” to which he replied:
The code is valid, it’s just that W3’s validator can’t see that.
I knew this from reading Phil Ringnalda’s explanation; it was just sloppy thinking and bad writing on my part. I should have said that the W3C’s validator isn’t handling the included RDF data which of course is a very different thing than TrackBack breaking the validator. Thanks, Tomas, for the smack.
And also for the suggested workaround of wrapping the RDF data in comments. Haven’t tried this yet but will today.

No problem, I’ll stick around and smack you up again if I find the need.

Placing comments around the RDF code works just fine. One other thing needs to be done to stop the validator from choking: the ampersand in the TrackBack link after the entry needs to be ecaped (i.e., you need to change the “&” to “&”).
