Educated Quotes Nirvana (Almost)

John Gruber has solved the quote problem. I mentioned a week or so back here about trying to get Brad Choate’s MTMacros up and running in order that quotes and apostrophes in posts would be automatically educated. I couldn’t seem to get it working properly.
I haven’t had time to figure it out, but it turns out I don’t need to; the amazing John Gruber at Daring Fireball has used another Brad Choate plug-in (MTPerlScript) to create a routine that does exactly what I’m looking for. (Added bonus: it also converts double hyphens to proper em dashes.)
Thank the gods for these people and their wonderful facility with PERL and regular expressions. Gruber writes of his script that “the whole thing gives off a tad whiff of being a hack” but I look at it (PERL know-nothing that I am) and can’t get over how elegant it seems, how it so succinctly embodies a good piece of thinking. I doubt I’m just easily impressed.

That looks very interesting, I think I might want that myself. Is it easy to install? Is it easy to use?
Do I just put regular “quotes” and ‘single quotes’ and the script does the rest, or what?
Do you know where I can find more information on what I need to install and so forth?
