Out of Touch

It’s terrible that we’re becoming a society afraid of touch. It can get you into trouble, raise suspicions, make you look like a child molester.

The Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association recently released a somewhat unfortunately named “Member Protection Policy.”

Swimming’s touchy issue
Sydney Morning Herald

For Australian swimming coaches, a massage and a slap on the bum for their athletes was part of the game. No longer, writes Michael Cowley.

Australian swimming was one of the pioneers of massage therapy. The problem was that when it started in the 1980s, the coaches were doing most of the massaging, and boundaries may have been crossed.

Speaking of massages, I wish someone would give me one right now. I swam 3km last night, most of it racing against other swimmers, and now I’m just wasted.
