iSync Poetry

The Macintoshian Achaia iSync thread alerts us to this perfect snippet in the release notes for the 1.0 beta.
Important: This software is beta software. You should back up important data before you install and use it. To back up your data, you can use the menu command in iSync.
Looks like the author of those notes just couldn’t resist…

I noticed that and had a good chuckle. Ummmm - cart or horse, horse or cart…. After some fiddling I did get iSync up and running. Some breath holding because I do rely on my palm. Needless to say I did duplicate and rename my Palm desktop after a final normal synch just to be on the safe side. I also deleted all the iCal stuff I’d set up while trying it out lest repeating events be repeated to the max during synching.
I had to spend some time fiddling as I say. Followed the directions, read the discussions, wondered if my Palm OS was too old (no). Finally I put all the conduit settings back to where they were before and tried synching. Worked. For some reason (in the “when all else fails” category) I unplugged my cradle from the computer and plugged it back in. Reset all the conduits for iSync and voila! it worked like a champ. Only two address book conflicts, easily resolved and a handful of duplicated repeating events which were also easily deleted on iCal.
I took a couple minutes to assign the calendar stuff to the appropriate sub-calendar (home, work, quilting etc) and I was done. Published one calendar for a manager of mine to use and I was off and running.
The potential of this is awesome. We’re trying to convince our scheduling guy at work to use this so we can subscribe to the calendar and load it right into our computers and PDAs. I published my calendar of monthly meetings so he can see what nights I have to leave early each month. Need a swap? See who else is working or not working on the comprehensive schedule. Hallelujah and pass the PDA.

Just my 5 cents :) Never used it, but maybe it’s really have a chance be very cool “in potentia”.
