Ripped Off!

Everyone who has a design ripped off starts off by saying something like, “Well, I guess I should be flattered.” To hell with that! I wish the following people would get a clue. If you’re going to rip someone off, at least use some imagination (and change my copy for crying out loud!).

Allow me to present for your viewing pleasure the Antipixel ripoff gallery.

Update: [nov09]: Edited as those apologies come rolling in.

Ripped off in Indonesia. Antipixel gets around. This guy liked the old design so much he couldn’t stop at using it for his commercial site, he had to use it for his Love-blog, too:

Update: I’ve received a gracious apology from the perpetrator of these following examples and have removed my original comments and links.

Hi. I enjoy visiting Antipixel and find your references to web design (especially since I’m a Mac OS X user too) very helpful.

After following the link to NetNewsWire from your site, I’ve since downloaded it and it’s one of my favorite apps.

I’m still a novice at web design but I would never consider swiping someone else’s work - that’s so mukatsuku!

I hope the fact that you posted their sites on Antipixel will make them feel some remorse for what they’re doing.

Take care and look forward to learning more tips on web design from you.

Design rip-offs suck. Here in the Netherlands there is even a CTRL-C, CTRL-V award for it, given by http://www.delijst.net/delijst/ctrlcctrlv2002/ [Dutch].

The best is when they start claiming your ripped them off.

I’ve seen my professional work being ripped off by unscrupulous people and I didn’t like it a bit! Can’t imagine how it must feel when it’s your personal work… I guess is one of the advantages of being anonymous =)

i had an idea ripped off by an entire industry. it wasn’t anything too special, but it was just one of those “why didn’t i think of that?” ideas. i guess the question then becomes, “why do you have to think of it if someone else already did and you can just copy it?”

they even took my code verbatim. i put it in notepad and matched it word for word, space for space, variable for variable.

unbelievable…

the thing that pisses me off is never getting credit for adjusting an entire industry. and here i am looking like just another copycat to someone’s unknowing eyes. sigh

Do you really feel that your design is so original. Your web site looks like a hundred others I’ve seen. How about this “Post A Comment Box” your using, did you invent it?

Your web site is basically a blog, and it looks like all blogs.

I don’t see how you can feel like you are some great inventor, a designer of thgings never seen before.

You borrow ideas and layouts just like everyone else.

There is a guy I know online who rips themes. Doesn’t it just tick you off? You can post Webmaster Warnings at the link I left.
