No-go for the Leos

I guess it was too much to ask after last year’s lucky break (when I even managed to snap a small memento). There’ll be no Leonid action in Tokyo this time around.

Earlier in the evening the cloud cover was thin enough that the moon was very visible, and some of the brighter stars managed to peek through. But right now we’re completely cloud-bound and the moon has disappeared altogether. No sign of it breaking up at all.

I wish you better luck, and can only hope you get a show like the one I saw last year. You won’t forget it.

I didn’t get to see any. At around midnight near Toronto, there were light patchy clouds, but we could still see stars from our balcony. Once 4 am rolled around, the clouds were so thick in every direction we looked, we couldn’t even see the moon.

I did manage to get a show… read my report here.

Oh, and by the way, in IE 5.5 Mac your radio buttons for the comment form have wandered way away from their labels.

In Utah the peak time was supposed to be around 3:30am. I woke up a little after 4 and managed to see a few spectacular fireballs between the patchy clouds. It was beautiful.

I managed one little streak at 5:55am, while I was waiting for my train into Washington, DC. I saw them last year in north Alabama, and they were delightful. Better viewing down there, too.

Hey… I thought I was the only Utahn here.

Down here in Provo, where canyon winds kept cloud cover to minimum, we got a great show… it was too cold to be down by the lake (away from the light pollution) for long, but in the 15 minutes I was out, I saw 30 or so.

Very cool.

Oh… and on OS9x IE5.1.5, I don’t have any problems with the radio buttons, so if there is a problem, I’m guessing it may be very localized.

5:30 am DC time. Sky clear. I am standing out in my front yard in my bathrobe, waiting for the paper to come. I look up and see 4 bursts of light. I make four wishes and I return to my warm abode.

Glad to see folks saw something. The cloud cover only got thicker here. Of course I woke up this morning to clear skies. What timing.
