Kanedaaaaa!

I mentioned back in the summer about a visit to Studio Ghibli and meeting Miyazaki Hayao. Well, I almost had a shot at meeting another animation great, Otomo Katsuhiro (“Akira”), but I heard from his editor yesterday that he’s going to be too busy during the particular window of opportunity in which this would have been possible. Apparently he’s finishing up shooting on a new live-action feature and is being held prisoner on the set until the thing gets done.

Damn.

On the subject of anime, if anyone’s seen something called “Blood, The Last Vampire” I’d be interested in hearing your impressions. I’m going to try to rent it this weekend. Oh, and any “DragonballZ” fans out there?

Blood was short and its story lacked depth, however it was visually very impressive. Its worth a rent but not a dvd buy.

My condolences to you ;) It’d have been great to meet Otomo.

During many years I had the poster of the movie in my bedroom, and went to see the movie two times (in Barcelona the movie was dubbed in English, and at the time I barely followed a slow conversation, let alone an action packed movie!) Later, I had it on video. I’d watch it tonight if it weren’t for the fact that I don’t currently have a VCR in my new home (but I’ll have it for Xmas, so I’ll watch it then)

Of course, the comic was even better than the movie. I remember the color was superb!

I’ve heard the same thing about “Blood, The Last Vampire” too. It’s a short anime with very good visuals. I have yet to see it too but I like most of the stuff I’ve seen so far from Production I.G like “Jin-Roh” and “Ghost in the Shell”, and Kudo Yuki is a pretty good actress.

I’m a fan of DBZ! I’ve watched the anime from DB to DBGT and read some of the manga for it too. I also own some of the PS One games too.

Oops! Sorry about the above. I viewed the “privacy policy” page, hit back, and posted, before noticing that my information was wiped out. My bad.

“Blood, The Last Vampire” is very short indeed, but definitely an intense and impressive audio/visual experience. Turn the volume up loud for some good scares.

I enjoyed all forty minutes of “Blood, TLV”, and afterwards I managed to convince the rental guy at Blockbuster Video that I had been conned out of my money by its brevity. So I also got to watch a “Beat” Takeshi movie, which was even better.

I watched “Ghost In The Shell” again recently, and only now on the fifth time of viewing have I noticed how talk-heavy it is. It isn’t even conversation most of the time, just waxing philosophical, which is a shame. Some of the scenes rival any of those put together in the last couple of years of Hollywood productions - well worth a look.

BTW, I finally got the special edition DVD of Akira for Xmas! ;)

I think I’m gong to have to order that. I tried to watch Metropolis the other night but somehow just wasn’t in the mood and ended up turning it off.

By the way, I got to meet Kitakubo Hiroyuki, director of Blood, over New Year. Quite funny to listen to someone who really wanted to talk about their work while depserately trying not to say anything too concrete about it for not wanting to influence anyone else’s reading of it.
