Takahashi Soba-ya

takahashiAnnexe.jpg

I don’t think I ever posted this photograph of the Takahashi Soba Shop that I took ages ago. Seems it’s time for another architectural shot and this one (I hope) shows the beauty of shõji (paper screens) quite nicely.

This is the Takahashi Soba-ya, a noodle shop located out at the end of the Keio Line near Mt. Takao, a popular hiking spot. They make what’s probably the best soba I’ve ever had (the secret is the quality of the local water, I guess). You can’t see it in this shot, but the building to the right of this annexe has been designed to accommodate a large persimmon tree that’s growing in the middle of the dining room. There’s a hole in the ceiling for the trunk and the canopy of the tree spreads over the building just out of the right frame of the picture.

Their persimmon tempura is wonderful.

Great picture! I really enjoy your architectural pics. How about some shots of things more on the kitschy side? Tokyo has plenty of examples!
