“Sen to Chihiro” Lawsuit

Got this off Slashdot so forgive me posting it here, but it seems that people in Kyõto and Hyõgo prefectures have filed a lawsuit against Disney Japan because the DVD version of “Sen to Chihiro” (“Spirited Away”) has a red tint to it.

My video store was playing it on DVD when it first came out and I couldn’t see anything wrong with it at all. The colours were just incredible – like no other animated film I’d ever seen. Maybe a different production run?

All I know is the lawsuit better not slow-up the release of the DVD stateside… Spirited Away is, perhaps, one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

Shame I only got to see it once on the big screen.

sigh

I dunno. Given that it is still Disney that will be releasing it over here I want them to clear this up. I would just hate to see us get the same version that was released R2.

Yes, I’ve heard about the red tint too, but I thought that was only with the initial pressings of the DVD in Japan. I own the Chinese version (complete with the Buena Vista logo) and did not notice it having a red tint.

Yeah, I saw sprited away twice on the big screen and I didn’t see anything wrong…It might also be that the videos released in those areas are messed up somehow…

I had not heard about this. I own the DVD and there seems to be nothing wrong. I’ve seen it five times: twice in a theater. As you can tell, I love that movie. It captured me the first time I saw a trailer.
