Why Phone Cameras Make a Noise

I happened to see part of a story on television the other night about a new and sadly predictable use for mobile phones.
Many phones have cameras in them these days and the phones themselves are so small and unobtrusive that men have begun using them to take ‘up-skirt’ pictures of women. Targetting girls in short skirts, the ‘photographer’ will sidle up to the victim as she browses in a store aisle for example and, phone held low in hand, will surreptitiously click the shutter as he passes her. I think the program even showed store security camera footage of this in action (although it may have been staged for the ‘benefit’ of the audience).
I suddenly realised why these phone cameras make exaggerated shutter sounds when used – it’s not for the nostalgic satisfaction of the photographer.

Serious sex issues? You might be surprised at how refreshingly open minded many Japanese people are about sex. I’m sure the US has it’s fair share of perverts. They just don’t have the same opportunities they have here. I do believe it is getting better though. More and more young women are speaking up rather then feeling ashamed so the people who try these things don’t have it as easy as they used to.
PS: The term ecchi is more like erotic. Your girlfriend or wife might say that to you but for these people you would probably hear something like hentai or sukebe.
