What’s It About?
A moment of dialogue that occured more than once last night:
—So, do you have a blog?
—Yes, antipixel.com.
—Oh. What’s it about?
—Um….
Not a question that had ever really occured to me before. Must think up some snappy answer for this (“It’s about me” doesn’t seem to cut it).

I reply to that questions with “everything, you would have to read it to understand”
seems to work.

Next time just say “sex” in as flat a tone as you can muster. Sit back and enjoy the results. :-)

I tell people “prosciutto,” when they ask.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out”, is what I would have said…

Well when I am asked that I say. Video games and nerd stuff.

Well, at least they know what a blog is. That’s a step up from my version of the conversation.

If I’ve learned anything from the Mac Genii at work, it’s the power of the totally blank stare, accompanied by silence.
I suppose a more polite response would be to hand them a card with the URL and say “check it out and let me know.”

Mary Beth: you have cards with your blog address on? My god, I must be living in the dark ages spelling my address out to people and reminding them it isn’t a .com
People ask me this quite often. I don’t think there is a right answer, but there are definitely answers that are more trouble than they are worth. It gets metaphysical pretty quickly.

To, “What’s it about?”, I either answer, “You.”, or, “About a page and a half.”

Well Chris, I do have cards with my URL, but oftentimes it’s enough to say “Quilter dot com, that’s QUILTR without an ‘e’.” for them to remember. I have another .org domain and wish in a way I’d gotten the .com as well rather than having to explain it all the time.
I’m thinking that the “you” reply is a guaranteed traffic builder and may have to adopt that myself.

Hi Jeremy,
First wanted to say that it was good meeting you the other night. Hope to see you at the future blog meeting! I’m still figuring out what a blog ‘is’ let along what mine is about. I get a kick out of the links though - thanks for mentioning my name : ) Mie
