Kakutani on Baker’s A Box of Matches (and why she’s wrong)
18:05 | Comments (1)
Michiko Kakutani pans Nicholson Baker’s latest novel, but she misses the point. A Box of Matches is a little retro-rocket of a book that’s been fired to nudge the joy of the everyday back into an orbit with us at the centre rather than allowing it to escape into outer space.

Agatsuma U.S. Dates
18:05 | Comments (5)
Just in case you’re near any of the places below and you like Tsugaru jamisen (or admire virtuosity in general) and you missed Paul’s comment and would be disappointed to miss the opportunity to hear a kind of music you wouldn’t ordinarily get to hear in Middletown or Towson or even Boston or New York City for that matter, I’m posting the dates of Agatsuma Hiromitsu’s U.S. appearances below.

Dictionary Look-up from Chimera’s Toolbar
18:05 | Comments (13)
A toolbar bookmark for Chimera that does a word look-up on dictionary.com. Also one for the thesaurus.
As you probably know by now, Kung-Log (post to MT sites from your desktop!) has been rewritten in Cocoa, Here’s a test post from the latest version (1.1).

Killer headline, but it would seem that for stones, meteorology is destiny.
San Fancisco Bans Segways
18:05 | Comments (0)
Like a lot of round pegs trying to fit into square holes, the Segway may have a bit of a battle ahead of it. San Francisco bans the things on its sidewalks.

BackTrackability

Backtrack is a foot-stompingly clever way to forge links back along outbound TrackBack pings.

What’s It About?

Caught flatfooted by a seemingly innocent question.

Reversing the Post/Comment Paradigm
18:05 | Comments (20)
The standard blog arrangement where something gets posted and then people comment on that post (or not) is all fine and dandy, but lately I’ve been thinking that there should be some way for people to write here without having to respond to anything. Sort of like a suggestion box. Only not just for suggestions. And not a box. You get the idea.

New Year’s Irresolutions
18:05 | Comments (0)
Knowing myself as well as I do, which is to say better than I would at times wish, I’ve long given up making New Year’s resolutions. This year, however, I thought I should have another go at it and resolve to undertake some small thing, something modest, which would Make Me a Better Person (the long-delayed journey of a thousand miles starting, as it does, with one step).

It’s the Happy New Year post, featuring photographs taken throughout the night and a recording of the bell of Gotoku Temple tolling in the new year.
