A Quick Toot

I know you’re not supposed to do this, but one must blow the cobwebs out of one’s trumpet every now and then. It seems this site is making an appearance in Movable Type’s “Spotlight Sites” section. No idea why — I think Ben and Mena are just being polite because I’ve been using MT since it came out and it’s probably my turn. ;-) The other site that gets mentioned, WitoldRiedel.com is definitely worth a look. Make sure you see the aeroplane drawings.

As if that weren’t enough, Mike, Nadine and I get mentioned in Japan-zine on their current feature page:

Hunkabutta — Mike Clark has a real eye for finding beauty in the midst of ugliness, symmetry in unexpected places, and interesting faces and fashions. One day it’s photos of people’s feet on the subway, the next it’s people with strange umbrellas and the next it’s office workers on the verge of exhaustion.

Tokyo Shoes — Funny, smart, and they get around to lots of interesting places in Tokyo. It’s everything a blog should be.

Antipixel — Some blogs have great photos, some have interesting commentary. A very few have both. Antipixel is one of that rare breed, and the blogger, Jeremy Hedley, is good at seeing through cliché, knows a lot about Japan, and can make even obscure topics interesting. (Not always Japan related)

I think they may have confused this site with another Antipixel, but I can go with this. Thanks for the links!

Hey, congratulations, your site is really amazing. Maybe Ben and Mena meant to introduce us to each other. Hi. (offers hand.) All the very best from New York. Cheers… (and yes you are supposed to do this!)

Congratulations!

You deserve the accolades, you know.

You deserve it. This is one of my favorite reads of the day. You never come across as arrogant or self absorbed (like all too many ‘popular’ blogs do) and your photographs are very high quality and nice to look at. Plus, your page design is to die for.

Congrats, Sam

Is that you, John Wayne? :)

Thanks, folks. I wasn’t fishing for compliments (I post things like this to show off for my mum and dad and sister —- my brother doesn’t go near computers if he can help it) but they are nice.

Witold —- I raise a glass to you, in this case a cheap but not-too-shabby South African table wine (the spirit being richer than the wine tonight). Those drawings of yours really are brilliant. I honestly saw at least a dozen I would buy immediately if I could. Bravo!

Kris —- That’s not actually me. I guess I can reveal now that I didn’t really attend the bloggers’ party the other night. I sent along a friend of mine (the same one who attended the MT gathering, of course, an old friend of mine who now works as a copywriter for an association of fish canneries in Shizuoka but who wants to be an actor —- he’s quite talented I think in the dorkier roles, a kind of bastard love-child of the young James Spader and Steve Buscemi raised in a forgtten provincial outpost by Edward G. Robinson —- and he makes it up to Tokyo on a somewhat regular basis.

We got high one night on homebrewed wasabi absinthe and thought it would be funny if he stood in for me.

I’m just waiting to see how it plays out, so don’t go announcing it or anything. This comment can be the place and if people read it here, then it can get out that way and I’ll just deny it later. ;-)

Jeremy, yours was one of the first blogs I ever read and it still tops my list. They hit it “spot on” (as the hubby says)—great photos and great commentary. I enjoy reading you because we like so many of the same things (misery isn’t the only feeling that likes company), but then you also know so much about things that I know nothing about—like music.

PS—Glad to see your photo at last week’s party (since you refused to publish one in your “swimsuit issue”). I thought, “Finally. Jeremy Hedley exposed!”

Your blog is really nice., you deserve the recognition.

Jeremy,

Yes, you should blow your own trumpet! Congratulations. Thank you for including me in the post too. I was honored to be included in the short list with you and Mike.

Great to see you the other night (or rather your stunt double). With all the photobloggers you knew would be there it was probably a wise decision to send him instead.

By the way, I’d love to get your homebrewed wasabi absinthe recipe.

> Finally. Jeremy Hedley exposed!

Oh my god —- the mind boggles. You do not want this, believe me!

Nadine —- I would post the wasabi absinthe recipe, but with all the worry about weapons of mass destruction recently, I’ve been asked by the U.S. State Department to keep it under wraps. NASA has shown an interest, however, in its use as a possible replacement fuel for long-distance space travel.

Wasabi absinthe??? Now you’ve got my curiosity piqued! I’ve made absinthe, and I’ve made wasabi, but never before has the idea to somehow combine them into some sort of lunatic psychotropic spicy licorishy clear the sinuses with a great belching blast of horseradish and ethanol beverage.

Please divulge more information about your concoction!
