BookLab II

I’ve been to mention this for weeks now, but if you haven’t yet visited Craig Jensen’s BookLab II you should. Some sections of the site are still being filled out, but the portfolio section is an absolute must-see. Books are among the most beautiful objects there are, and these examples fill me with a wild and untamed envy! I’d love to be able to produce work like this.

It’s great to find a publisher that specialises in producing such beautiful and unique works of art. You know, I love love LOVE books (I only wish my collection of primarily art books wasn’t spread between two countries), and two ‘meta-style’ volumes that I’ve been coveting for a while now are “The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century”, which considers not only the imagery contained within twentieth century photography books but also the design (typography, layout, binding, jacket design, paper stock, etc), and “A Book of Books” by Abelardo Morrell (and preface by your fav Nicholson Baker). Have you come across either of these? Hopefully they’ll be gracing my bookshelves sometime later this year.

Lil —- If Baker did the preface, then it’s another purchase I have to make <sigh&$62;. Thanks for letting me know about that.
