A.Word.A.Day

Not really in the “book” category but of a literary bent nonetheless is Anu Garg’s A.Word.A.Day mailing list. Each day a new word is posted along with its etymology and examples of usage. The web site includes an audio file so you can listen to the pronunciation if you like. Highly recommended.

Anu also has a book out — A Word a Day: A Romp Through Some of the Most Unusual and Intriguing Words in English. If you buy many copies and give them away, people will love you even more.

I have 1800 AWAD emails archived and continue to get a new one daily. I second the recommendation.
