Terry Southern’s Literary Archives

Am I missing something or are there no Terry Southerns these days? Seems like we need him more than ever.
Terry Southern Literary Archives Go to New York Public Library
Mel Gussow, NYTimesTerry Southern defined his mission as “attacking smugness.” As long as there were taboos, he said, “art should be iconoclastic.”
Southern’s art was iconoclastic in the extreme. As a novelist and screenwriter — of “Dr. Strangelove” and “Easy Rider,” among other films — he was a quintessential artist of the counterculture, using anarchic humor to strike out against sexual repression, militarism and political corruption.

Blue Movie is still one of the greatest porn-related books ever written, along with Porno by Irvine Welsh and The Man Who Wrote The Book by Erik Tarloff. Just hilarious.

Satiric genius. I love Barbarella and Candy too. I don’t know of a replacement, but I do know that dvds of Dr Strangelove are prominently displayed in various shops I’ve been in recently.
