The Petal Storm Begins

Now we come to the time where the cherry blossom petals start to fall. They do this with the same exuberance with which they filled the trees just days ago, flinging themselves off branches and falling to earth in a pink fluttery rain that covers everything … and everyone. You see people walking around with petals on their clothing and in their hair. They stand in line at banks and post offices shooing petals off themselves with little flicks of the hand and faint smiles.

Witold —- I was going to mention something in that post about the democracy of the petals … falling on rich and poor alike, and so forth. Rich in the case of the owner of that car (whoever they may be) and poor in the case of, well, me.
But I didn’t want to get too … flowery (ha ha).
Actually, I haven’t owned an internal combustion engine of any description for 12 years. But I’ll be going for a nice gun-metal grey BMW 8-series when it’s time to rejoin the gas-guzzlers again. (Well, either that or a second-hand VW Type III.)

Glorious! I love the atmosphere of Japan’s cherry blossoms. Had a cherry tree just outside the entrance to my apartment in the US, and it’s just magic when you walk out in the morning under a sky of pink blossoms.

Great pick. Same thing happened here in Seattle. It’s that time of year, just ask my allergies! Yikes. I got a couple pics myself before the petals jumped ship.
