Next on the List: France

Hoo, boy. The U.S. is sounding so grown up these days.
US signals action against France
BBCUnited States Secretary of State Colin Powell has said France will suffer consequences for having opposed the US over the war with Iraq.
Those who enjoy a good conspiracy theory must be wondering what on earth the current administration has on Powell that could make him do things like stand before the UN to present trumped-up evidence and now say this sort of stuff. Did he slay a village of civilians in Vietnam or something? I had the impression Powell was beyond all of this. Maybe I was wrong.
Later in the article we read a little snippet from Negroponte that has, for Australians, a certain (entirely expected) poignancy:
Many nations on the Security Council say UN inspectors should be the ones to verify any new discoveries, and on Tuesday Mr Blix presented a case for sending his teams back to Iraq.
The US ambassador, John Negroponte, reacted coolly, saying the United States and Britain had assumed responsibility for disarming Iraq.
Little Johnny Howard (our Prime Miniature) must be feeling left out. Didn’t we send troops? Didn’t we kiss arse? Didn’t we slap the UN in the face and help piss everyone off because we want our trade agreement with America? Yes, yes, yes — and now we don’t get a mention.

hoo Jeremy, didn’t you ever hit the nail on the head with that one. Trade agreement? What trade agreement? I though this war was based on the threat of terrorism to our great and illustrious nation headed by ‘minature Howard’?

I, too, had thought that Powell was a better man than that. I still believe that he was once a force for good, before he became part of the rampaging foolishness that is the Bush administration. But that is history now. He’s gone over to the Dark Side.

Bush said, on tv, recently, “There is no list, and Syria isn’t on it”.
Gee, if I was American I’d be really proud of that guy.
