“Who falsifies this?” - Blix

Meant to link this with the previous story, but it can certainly stand on its own.

Case for war built on fake reports, claims Blix
Sydney Morning Herald

Dr Blix, who addressed the UN Security Council late last night on his readiness to send inspectors back to Iraq, said he would not dream of accusing US and British intelligence agencies of fabricating reports on illegal arms.

But he questioned their ability to spot “fakes”, such as a report Iraq had imported tonnes of raw uranium.

“Is it not disturbing that the intelligence agencies that should have all the technical means at their disposal did not discover that this was falsified?” he said. “I think that’s very, very disturbing. Who falsifies this?”

The Independent coincidentally (or maybe not) carries an op-ed piece today on the failure to date of any evidence of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in Iraq:

So where are they, Mr Blair?

Not one illegal warhead. Not one drum of chemicals. Not one incriminating document. Not one shred of evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction in more than a month of war and occupation.

So where are they? In case we forget, distracted by the thought of thousands of dead Iraqi civilians, looted museums and gathering political chaos, the proclaimed purpose of this war, vainly pursued by Britain and the US through the United Nations, was to disarm Saddam Hussein and to destroy weapons of mass destruction deemed a menace to the entire world.

what a mess.
here are some recent thoughts:
-no WMD found, yet it was THE causus belli
-Shiites about to take over Iraq, substituting an Islamic fundamentalist regime in place of the old dictator who kept them in check
-an old idea for an oil pipeline from Iraq to (guess where) Haifa is being dusted off
-Bechtel awarded fat contracts
-Saddam not found; maybe alive (stated objective not accomplished)
-oil now flowing, but not water
-Cheny and right wing Republicans taking a bead on Powell for thinking of going to Syria for talks
-right wing gaining strength every day in the USA

Sometimes we think too deeply on things: maybe it really was all about oil afterall. And Texas cronyism. And, ofcourse, revenging his father.

I only hope that Hilary decides to run in 2008.

By the way, have you heard of the documentary film called "Unprecedented", about the 2000 campaign? Have yr fingers run, yes, run, to the unprecedented.org site and download the movie trailer for a preview.

if it werent for some hanging chads…
