Is it time for another Buddhist action figure? Yes, it is. Karma never sleeps. Here’s Gousanzemyouou, fully armed and ready to slay those demons of ignorance.

I have Koumokuten, Mr. West,of the four heavenly princes. He looks like he’s about to pass a baton in the heavenly relay race, though I think it’s actually a scroll in his hand. The other hand is gripping feather pen…whatever it is, he looks mighty pissed off. Koumokuten is not going to be confused for Heavenly Prince Charming.

Whenever I see these action figures, I’m reminded of “Hello Kali” and “Dora the Destroyer”â?”well-done treatments of famous cartoon characters-cum-Hindi gods.

Wish I could find some links… and wish the ubiquitous “they” would do Ganesh. Maybe a Babar Ganesh. Hmm…

And people wonder why I’m an atheist.

Gousanzemyouou… Is that word even pronounceable? I wouldn’t want to try and say it five times fast… ;P

Could you send him to the White House? Seems like there’s a nest of “demons of ignorance” there.

Dude! I seriously want one of those!

Seriously, where are these to be found? Have you seen them anywhere besides convinience stores? Searching google for buddhist action figures just brings up this page!

Similar to the frightening ones you see in the entrance to temples. Remember that Buddhism teaches about attachment to appearences. The protecitve dieties look frightful, but they are actually very kind and will do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to protect all the followers of the Buddha. There were two huge dieties at the recent Nichiren Buddhist Art exhibit in Ueno, so beautifully made they seemed real. If you are a Buddhist, you will know how real the dieties are.
