No More Bryce for Macintosh

Speaking of weather, in this case virtual renditions of it, MacCentral reports that Corel has announced it’s bailing on further Mac development of Bryce. Yappari, as they say.

I always found playing around in Bryce therapeutic. It’s relaxing to wile away some stress-free moments making landscapes and skies and doing little flythroughs. Corel ought to shop the Mac codebase around, somebody ought to pick it up. It can’t be the end for Bryce on the Mac….

Anyone used MojoWorld?

Someone please remind me what Corel IS making these days? Or what they’re making money at?

When I think of the number of customers, myself included, who had to give up WordPerfect after years of it being a great MS alternative, because Corel just didn’t feel like supporting it anymore — well my mind boggles.

Corel has never MADE anything in the sense of creating software. They acquire software, milk it for what it’s worth and then dump it in a corner. At least they should have the decency of allowing someone else to carry on. But decency doesn’t spell in the quick buck-don’t care world of the ENRONs and ENRON wannabees. I for my part do not purchase any Corel products anymore, neither for the PCs nor for the Macs in our company and any customer asking for advice will be given exactly that: “The continuing support for product X, currently owned by Corel, cannot be guaranteed. Judging by past experience, Corel will most likely drop development & support for product X within two years”.

Isn’t it ironic that Bryce was originally developed for the Mac only and now it’s only available on PC?
