Straws Wrapped and Unwrapped

In a café on Aoyama and Koto I took a wrapped straw without noticing that there were also unwrapped straws. When I noticed, my drink gone, the dilemma: do you take the wrapped or unwrapped straws? The self-preservatory but insular and wasteful, with it’s little pang of guilt as you slide off the paper tube, having taken care not to tear the end clear off because you want to keep it as one piece of paper rather than two, and accordion the length of it up into a crumple between your fingers, or the potentially disease-ridden but trusting and communal unwrapped straw, nestled in its vase with the others, all plastic zen flower arrangement?

They’re both yellow.

Wrapped.

Paper blocks the fly that lands on the opened straw.

The other thing you can do with wrapped straws, of course, is deliberately tear the paper off at one end, tweak out a lip’s worth of straw, put it in your mouth and blow the paper off so it shoots across the table.

You really can’t do this alone though.

Jeremy; you can do this alone. In fact the results are even better. There’s nothing like being considered to be a nutter by your local environ to free the soul; even for a short while.

Take the wrapped. Have some fun. free your soul. be mad.

Some people place their mouths directly to the rim of the vessel containing their beverage - thereby avoiding the straw dilemma altogether, oh but now I think I may have wrecked your fun!
