The Asahi Shinbun featured these wonderful caricatures of sumo wrestlers in its profile of the starting lineup for the Nagoya tournament last Saturday. Take Al Hirschfield, replace the show business with a bulky pugnacity and, this is what you get.

Really wonderful drawings — did you take the time to scan those yourself? If so, a hearty thanks from one of your regular readers. And Richie, you’re implying that sumo is suffering through some attendance problems? If so, is a result of waning interest in the sport or is it more like the men’s tennis tour, which seems to lack charismatic top-tier players?

Im a female sumo wrestler and it greatly disturbs me to see only male faces on this page. If you only realized how hard it was for me to gain 300 lbs and im not even asian so i think i should get some respect. And one more thing im lookin for a tie dye diaper thong to wear to my next sumo match, if you can hook me up with one, HOLLA fools!
