Blackberry

Welcomed a healthy blackberry specimen into the garden a couple of days ago, which sounds strange to say because the plant is considered a pest by farmers in many parts of Australia and New Zealand (and quite probably elsewhere) where it was imported by myopic Englishmen to make nice hedgerows. This one looks loaded with berries though and so is very welcome.
In other berry news, the shortbush blueberry looks like it might give us a decent haul this year (as it did the last), and we’re on the lookout for raspberries (having become pretty excited by this whole berry cultivation thing — it’s just sublime to sit in the garden and be able to reach over and pluck a berry for an instant flavour hit).

That’s awesome. I wish I had a yard big enough to grow berries (and veggies). Apartment life doesn’t afford me the space necessary to cultivate much.

Zero —- our garden is absolutely tiny (I make it sound bigger than it is purely as a compensatory measure). Take the height and width of a broom closet and that’s about what we’ve got.
All you need though are a few things in pots —- herbs are great for apartment window sills because you can still get the sense of harvesting something for use in a meal.
But space … yes. Could certainly some more of that.

I’m ashamed to admit that when I saw the title of this entry in NetNewsWire, I thought it was going to be about a certain wireless email device. I think I need to get out of the house more often.

stevenf —- No need to be ashamed; it was the first thing that occured to me, too (I did try to think of some cute pun to take care of the issue but nothing came of it =).

The whole reason I clicked on the recent title for this post was because I too thought, cool something on the Blackberry.
That said - I hope they are delicious!
