Argh! Can’t they wait one week? I’m leaving the U.S. for Japan on the 30th! No t-shirt for me, then, I guess.

See you there.

Brad, same feeling here. I’ll be leaving Tokyo on the 29th.
Maybe we can split the difference?

Anyone know if they will certainly be giving out stuff (like a t-shirt) at the opening? I was thinking of waiting a few days to avoid the crowds, but getting an Apple t-shirt would be cool.

Yes, they will be giving out t-shirts. At least, that’s what the page on apple.com says. First come, first served, limited to the first 2,500 customers.

Make no mistake, folks —- this is going to be a nutty scene. Expect an absolute shitload of people to be there, and be prepared to camp out overnight if you want a t-shirt!

You’re right Jeremy — I’d expect a rather huge turnout. So bring something to sit on and your wireless laptop.
I’d swap someone a Crossgates shirt for a Tokyo shirt. Write me at the above address if you’re so inclined.

I realize I’m a bit late to this party, but I’m pondering a Mac purchase here in Japan. Net net is that after sales tax and conversion, a 15” PowerBook is almost $500 more here than in the states, with the only difference being the JIS keyboard. Does anyone here know of any reasons to make the purchase over here? Is the JIS keyboard worth $500?

Jed —- It’s worth $500 to get rid of the JIS keyboard if you ask me. I hate them.
Be very careful buying overseas. A friend was contemplating this and confirmed with Apple that they will not honour the warranty in Japan of a machine bought in the US. Seems outrageous to me and frankly I don’t know how they’d get away with it, but that’s apparently their position.
