The moon as it was rising tonight.

I’m glad, by the way, that we don’t have 2 or three moons because there’s no middle ground with moons: planets should have either one or many.

Speaking of the moon, there’ll be a lunar eclipse visible from this part of the world this coming weekend. It might not be as rare an event as a solar eclipse (I distinctly remember at least two occuring within the last decade) but it’s still a sight to behold.

Supposed to be a very pretty one, as the moon passes rather shallowly through the umbra, meaning there will be a very reddish moon. But I don’t think we’ll see it from Japan—it’s due around 1 AM GMT, so 10 am here…

Apparently, we do have two moons

Strangely enough, our single moon is credited with the stability of our planet’s spin, which in turn is credited with the temperateness of our environment… and life.

Although, it could be argued that had we two moons, we would have figured out gravitation earlier, and would all be flying in our hover-bikes by now.

On behalf of Mars, I deliver the following statement:

Screw you, Earthlings! We like our two moons just fine! Nyeah!

I hope to see a moon as beautiful as the one you saw, tomorrow!

And as hoped for, the eclipse is just beautiful. A dark russet right now with just a small sliver of bright moon showing towards the bottom. It’s a very cold and crisp night here in upstate NY.

It definitely was a most beautiful eclipse. Wish I had a decent tripod to shoot with. 28 degrees F and clear as coul be.

… that’s amore.

Am I the only one that knows that song?

I ended up missing the whole thing ‘cause we were blanketed with clouds since yesterday morning. Ah well. There’ll be another one soon enough.
