Alera Digital Photo Copy Cruiser

This could be interesting: Alera’s Digital Photo Copy Cruiser copies photographs from common media cards directly to CD without a computer (dpreview.com ran the press release).
Burning to CD — a cheap and readily available medium (you can buy them in most convenience stores throughout Japan, for example) — effectively means you never run out of space. What’s more, the device burns multi-session CDs, so it uses as much of the disk as it can before closing it.
No word on how it handles if you feed it gigabyte or larger cards (and their web site doesn’t seem to provide a simple list of system requirements). Nonetheless, worth investigating.

There are a couple of these. See disc steno and the vizor.
From what I understand, they work fine if you don’t have more pictures on your card than will fit on the CD.
I’m partial to hard drive storage. After realizing that the Belkin iPod Reader is absolute crap, I’ve ordered one of these, which, while not fancy, should do the job with minimal charging requirements. Also, the blank unit (I have a 60gb hard drive laying around from a laptop upgrade) only cost $89—$10 less than Belkin reader!
I used the original digital wallet for a lengthy international trip a few years ago. I’m going on another such trip this December, and though the digital wallet worked brilliantly, I can only imagine these devices have come a long way since.

I had no idea that such devices existed. This is just what I’ve been looking for, though.

I notice that none of these devices seem to indicate average transfer speeds — can you give me an example or two?
only the disc steno offers battery operation. what were the other guys thinking?

What are the external dimensions (in cm) and weight (grams) of the Alera Digital Photo Copy Cruiser ? Can’t find them anywhere.
