Today is Buy Nothing Day. I stocked up ahead of time and won’t be needing to do any shopping today.
Ha ha.

After looking all over the place, nothing could be found. Hence, I missed out.

Good luck: I hope you can make it, hold out, survive, etc.. It’s only 24 hours. Be strong, man.

Damn! And I just got pay today and are actually able to buy something… But then again, I have not bought anything for about a week, so it should make up ;-)

Does playing games at the arcade count? If that’s excluded, then I have made it through the day without buying anything.

Stocking up ahead of time sort of misses the point, doesn’t it? I think you’re supposed to actually do without 1/365th of your annual consumer purchases.

Barnoble —- stocking up would indeed miss the point. Perhaps it wasn’t a very funny joke.
(I didn’t buy anything, by the way.)

I am going to stock up at the local “After Buy Nothing Day” clearance sale. They have alot of leftover items from “Buy Nothing Day”. Most are 50% off or more.
Hey wouldnt it be easier to persuade stores to have a “Sell Nothing Day”?

Problem is that Buy Nothing Day does nothing to help poor countries. In fact, let’s face it, it has almost no effect. But if we were to actually observe it and reduce our consumption, the result would be that we’d trade less with poor countries, and they would be poorer. It is an entirely counterproductive idea.

Does anyone know when “Buy nothing day” is this year ie 2006. I notice the date in November changes. Is it the last Friday in November?
