The BBC has published a story from their correspondent in Havana that Ruben Gonzalez has died at the age of 84. He was such a wonderful pianist — the three albums I’ve heard have moments of just ineffable beauty.

I’ve never heard piano played with the combination of whimsy and control. Truly great style and will be missed.

Exactly! That a toughness underneath (can’t have had a terribly easy life) lets that lilting deftness catch the light so elegantly, and with such restraint.
