Ed Devereaux Dies
Comments: 13
Ed Devereaux may not be such a familiar name to non-Australians, but to two generations of viewers he was park ranger Matt Hammond in the television series Skippy (about the adventures of an orphaned kangaroo raised by the ranger’s son). Devereaux died in London yesterday at the age of 78.

Skippy was pretty big in Europe too. But in fairness, I wouldn’t have known the names of the actors.

wow…can remember growing up watching the ol Skip and Sunny (or Sonny?) thing. You mentioned Ed’s name and it sounded familiar…a good innings for the old fella. Hats off to Ed.

he was a fine actor had a brilliant part in the sweeney were he was caught on a blag and threw one of the bags of money over the fence for his kid who was dying or something.the brits lost a couple or good actors this year bob grant david lodge etc and although ed was’nt a brit i count him among those kind of actors forget about your tom cruises and keanu reeves with their purfumed bums

Ed Devereaux was a fine actor, and although I didn’t know him, I could tell from his performances in the shows I saw that he was a good man. He had four sons so he was no doubt a good father too. I think, watching the show as a kid, something of Ed brushed off on me. Thinking about it, I’m sure he actually influenced hundreds of children. I’ll cherish the episodes of Skippy that I have on video even more now.

Steve — Very belated condolences, and thanks for your comment here. As strange as this may be to say, your father was a big part of my childhood.
