Chimney

Around the corner from where I live there’s a 6-storey apartment building whose fire escape stairway is attached to the outside of the building. The top floor landing provides a 180° view (west–north–east) of which I often avail myself, especially around sunset.
All the times I’ve been up there before and I never noticed what a vaguely sinister shot this distant chimney can provide just after the sun goes down.

Ho ho ho! Did someone just say “Bara-dur?” (The chimney looks remarkably similar to Saruman’s Tower of Orthanc, from Lord of the Rings — methinks it looks sinister too ^_^)

This shot reminds me of the cover of Pink Floyd’s Animals album, with it’s shot of the Battersea Power Station outside of London.

Actually, it reminds me of James McNeil Whistler’s “Nocturne in Blue and Gold - Old Battersea Bridge” (which ironically enough, was itself inspired by a Hokusai print). It also brings to mind Giorgio de Chirico’s “Nostalgia of the Infinite”. What can I say other than that this is an absolutely brilliant photo?

If I was an evil genius - that is where I would want my lair…

Too late, it’s already my lair. I’m quite disappointed in how long it took as astute an observer as Jeremy to notice the sinister silhouette.
