A Nicely Lit Tokyo Station

This is a classic view of Tokyo Station, a photograph that must exist in millions of slight variations throughout Japan and across the world. And for good reason: Kingo Tatsuno’s design really is beautiful, and anything even a little bit old that’s been preserved in Tokyo commands a certain respect, if only for its tenacity.

Jeremy, this is such a lovely photo. When are you going to start selling prints? I think I have asked before, but I really think it would be great to be able to purchase a couple of my favourites from you, and have them framed here at home :)

If I didn’t know better I would say this is a photo of Centraal Station in Amsterdam.

You are right, Keith: Looks like Amsterdam’s Centraal Station. (Only the bikes are missing ;-) Merry Christmas!

If I looked at that twice without any previous knowledge of it, I would never think it to exist in Tokyo. Very nice.

Merry xmas

I know it’s very heard this days, but it’s worth saying. I love your pictures, I agree it would be interesting to shell them or at least give a more quality version. I think they should be great as a background. Keep up the good work.

Jeremy, looks a bit like Flinders Street Station in Melbourne yes?? :-) Great pic with lovely light. Well done.

And as an Amsterdam resident I thought I would have the honour to make the “looks like” comment :’(

Anyway, as a japanese person told me (and I always trust those guys :P) it’s no coincidence; the architecture was based on the Amsterdam Central Station, which was more or less based on the Architecture of the RIjksmuseum (same architect) yawn

well anyway, makes it the second building in Japan trying to be like Amsterdam central station: http://www.ivanweede.nl/sef/gallery/huis/Img_3897 :D

I like this photo from that series.

I rode past Huis Ten Bosch on my bicycle many years ago but didn’t stop. I’d been battling a hot, strong head-wind for hours and was in a foul mood. Would like to go back —- it looks strangely interesting.

haha, I haven’t been to the real version yet so I couldn’t say how the Japanese version relates to the Dutch one, but I must say that if the garden’s were both alike it would be a damned shame for the original Huis Ten Bosch ;)
