Happy…

… New Year, everyone. All the best for 2004 — I hope it’s better than this year was in all the ways that count. Peace, happiness, wisdom, and a little bit of money to us all.

We’re going to visit some local shrines and temples for the traditional midnight festivities (such as they are — if you happen to visit Gotokuji or Setagaya Hachiman around midnight and see a gormless fellow in uncool jeans and a wooly hat, say hello!). If you’re anywhere near Fremantle, Western Australia, however, be sure to try to get into Little Creatures where my brother will be DJ’ing. The place to be south of the river.

Oh, and you’re all welcome to join me and the rest of the crew in the pool at the Okura sports centre in Setagaya-ku tomorrow morning for the first swim of the new year. Doors open 10:00 a.m.

Happy New Year!

I wish you the very best and all that you can accept as good in your world.

I wish I could see you and say, "Hello!" in Japan. it's just not my time yet.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, pictures and opinions. They've been a constant source of reading enjoyment.

I wish you and yours a warm and happy new year.

Ashley from Portland, Oregon who wishes she could return to Japan.

Happy New Year to you and yours. Keep up the good work. By the way, how was the swim?

The swim was very good, thank you! I didn't make it for the 10:00 a.m. start when the other people I usually train with gathered — was up until 2:30 that morning visiting temples and shrines and photographing what I could. My wife and daughter went to bed earlier, but none of us got out of bed before 10 (such sleep-ins will be as close as we get to a winter holiday, so I didn't feel too bad about it ;-)

I did see the rest of the regulars, though, including someone who's been very helpful recently and a real inspiration, so I'm glad I went a little later because of that.

Hope you had a good start to the year. All the best for it.
