The Descent of Man

Shop window, Marunouchi, last night. Pretty much sums up my feelings about retail in general. This picture is for lil who, through some well-chosen books, pithy observations, and borderline diatribes has been trying to convince me that retail is in fact not inherently bad. My enthusiasm remains locked somewhere in the late-cretaceous.

Heh, I'm guessing that this picture looks right from the *inside* of the shop, as opposed to the outside. Still, pretty funny (^_^)
Happy New Years Eve to you too (it's still the 31st in Chicago)

what exactly is behind the people? Some kind of crouching monkey?
This looks right to me, if they were facing the other way (although there is usually a normal human at the right end), but this is in japan, correct? So I guess these diagrams go right-to-left there?

I didn't get a good look, but it seemed as if the design wasn't visible from inside the shop (which was open for business and well lit up inside when I took the picture). Maybe I wasn't paying attention and just didn't get the joke, but I couldn't figure out why the traditional 'evolution diagram' was reversed. The window on the other side of the door of the shop continued the diagram (albeit in the same reverse fashion) and at the far right were two white outfits.
Perhaps it meant something to art director, but it looked like something else to me.
