I keep stumbling across religious processions

I’m constantly stunned by the things we do for gods. As Randy Newman sings, that’s why I love mankind.

I think all Christian priests should wear colours like this (or you can keep the black but you have to wear a red clown nose). What god would not be pleased with this hosannah of colour? This is my idea of religious dress.

I think Roman Catholic clergy wear some good-looking vestments still.

I think most clerics have two set of uniforms, one for ceremonies and one for common day use.

Love the uniform black-and-white headgear and the riot of individual colouring below.

Ain’t that the truth.

Are they holding bows?

Looks like a traditional meditational archery competiton.

These pics are amazing, its like the stuff we see in the movies, wish I was there. Japan is next on my list.

Yes, they are holding Japanese long-bow’s (yum) and arrows (ya) and apparently on their way to a ceremonial shoot (reisha). I’m curious where this was photograph was taken.

I practice kyudo (Japanese archery) here in New York City.. for anyone that wants to know more about that, you can visit www.tokokyudojo.org.

Apologies for the lack of response here … influenza and trying to keep up with work.

Jon, as Tomato suggests and Paul confirms, yes, they’re holding bows. It is indeed a traditional archery shoot.

Paul, the pictures were taken January 14 at Meiji Shrine and locations throughout the big park behind it (in front of the Meiji Treasure House if that gives you any idea).
