any word, anyone?
i’m figuring that there are no developments or that the public a.d.d. has gotten distracted by other things…

What a sad ending to the story. What a waste.
Sympathies to the family.

New reports place Gray on S.I. Ferry is the latest I’ve been able to find. I tried to create a ‘news alert’ on the Times’ site but kept getting a server error.
We all get the urge to disappear sometimes. I hope he’s just indulging that for a little while.

I had the pleasure of working for Spalding for a few years. I was his family chauffeur. I am the one who took him to the airport for his trip to Ireland in a limo with his family. I was cancelled for the return trip to go back to his home in the east end. I remember seeing him months after the accident and could not believe how different he was. We spoke of physical therapy and I recommended someone that I know at a local hospital that would help him (I too am a therpist) I was saddened when I heard of his suicide attempts, I know his lovely family would be crushed by this. He was such a character and very down to earth. I feel that I was touched somehow by just knowing him personally. I am so sorry for his family. I just hope that he is somewhere and doing something that he loves to do and is alright. The world will suffer without this talented man who has so much to offer. My prayers go out to Kathy and his children all of which are very fine people. Spalding please come back

I’ve been fascinated by Spalding and his horrible depression for many years, having lived in NYC for 20 years or so. I know what it’s like, believe me, because without meds I don’t know where I’d be right now. It’s too sad to think about in detail.
I was a bartender forever at a bar called Marion’s in the East Village and he used to come in a lot. Very handsome, sweet, gentle man. He’s one of those New York fixtures, like George Plimpton, that when they’re gone, New York doesn’t seem the same for a long time.
I’m still praying, though. Hoping that he’ll make it home to that beautiful family. I have a little boy now and I know how hard this must be for them, only just a little.

I saw him on my birthday 4 years ago in Feb.He talked about his family and seemed liked a changed man.I was so moved by his love for son. It’s hard to understand how he could leave his family behind. He was a true piece of Heart Son.He will be missed.

Still hoping against hope that Spald will come home safe and sound. Such a unique and wonderful person, who has shared his life so publicly and with dignity is sorely missed. Come home, Spalding

I know how he feels (felt?). I too am so depressed… and for so long… that, well, I just have to say, that I understand why he’d want to end it. It’s not about others… his family… it’s about waking up each day, and wishing you hadn’t. If you haven’t been here… well, I’m glad you haven’t.
