Cloud on the summit of Mt. Fuji at sunset

I sat in front of the computer all day today and still didn’t get anything done. How can this be? At sunset, having seen my daughter off to her art class, I went for a walk so that I could say I had at least accomplished something.
There are three good sunset viewing places nearby. Which one is worth visiting depends, as does everything, entirely on the sky. One faces west-north-south, but Fuji is obscured behind the corner of a nearby apartment building. Another faces north-east-south with views to Shinjuku and Yokohama. The third faces due west and provides only a narrow field of view but, on a good evening, this is what you see.
Update: Desktop pictures available (I hope the quality is adequate; don’t have time to do them properly):
Control-click (or right-click) and choose “Save link as…” or “Download link” or whatever your browser’s equivalent happens to be. No responsibility taken if you go blind from having a bright orange desktop picture.

Very nice, I have to say that I love your photos. What camera do you use?
In the lighter side, this “cant-do-anything-productive” thing happens to me sometimes, you better go do something else until it goes away.

Send it to NASA and tell them you’ve already been to Mars. What an amazing sky.

Wow. It looks like an illustration. The clouds behind the mountain look like fire.

Wow, a great illustration on how to shift one’s preconception of such an iconic image. Fuji-san against such a magnificient backdrop still manages to hold it’s own, even in silhouette.
Well done Mr Hedley.

I do that all the time, sit in front of the computer and accomplish nothing. Been here all day, not much to show for it. A walk, now that’s worth something - especially if you wind up with a memory of Mount Fuji in any state of being. Thanks for sharing it.

I’ve been totally stressed out (living in NYC and all…) and just logging on your blog made me instantly feel about 25% zennier. I thank you for that.
Is there any way at all I could get a 1680X1050 (seriously… :) for my desktop? Or you think the orange would be too intense at such a scale?
I included my e-mail in case you have the time…
Thanks either way :)

That’s a fantastic photo! But then every photo I see on your blog is a photo I wanted to have taken…

Magnificent! Once again you have captured a wonderful facet of the personality of Fuji-san. More than any other in the world, I miss that beautiful sight.

Not sure what you used to enlarge the image, but you might want to try out the 30-day demo of Smartscale (http://www.extensis.com/pxlsmartscale/). It does a good job for me when blowing up hi-res images.
