The Gift

People are remarkable. You’ve probably seen this: US man fined for shipping himself.

A man who shipped himself in an airline crate half-way across the United States has been fined $1,500 and sentenced to four months’ house arrest.

It would have been cheaper just to fly apparently, even without being caught and fined. I guess it’s a funny idea, but definitely one of those jokes which are funny only as long as you don’t try to carry them out.

He’s lucky the cabin wasn’t pressurized.

I don’t quite understand why it’d be cheaper to actually fly. I’ve had rather large items (though, not as heavy as a human) shipped half way across the world before and the postage/’handling’ and customs combined did not equal anywhere near the price of a plane ticket between the two locations.

In this particular case, it was free (to him) to ship himself. The maniac worked in the shipping department of his company and billed the company for the shipment.
