The Fujinox
Comments: 8
While we’re on the subject of Fuji, I should point out that today was the Fujinox — the day when the sun sets directly behind Fuji.
Unlike the equinox, the Fujinox is, obviously, a localised phenomenon. My Fujinox is different to Yokohama’s Fujinox, for example, which will arrive a few days from now perhaps as the sun continues its journey north towards the solstice. (Now I’m curious: where is the place where the solstice and Fujinox coincide? I’ll have to try to figure that out.)
Anyway, happy Fujinox everyone, wherever you are. It comes but twice a year.

This is a coincidence.
Fujinox coincides with my “personal equinox day!” This is the day when the sun makes its reappearance above the horizon both when I walk to the subway to work and when I exit at the end of the day. A joyous day to celebrate!!!

Do the Japanese celebrate Fujinox as they do for the other festivals?

Well, the Fujinox isn’t really a festival. But I think it should be!

As the Fuji is a fixed place, and the place of sunset changing, shouldnt then there be a Fujinox celebrated everyday somewhere around Japan ? (at least where the Fuji is visible)

That is a very beautiful picture and an interesting concept.

Great image of what is the most importiant subject to photographers - light. Thanks for the bright display of pixels.
